DON'T GO IN THE FOREST

This film was released on DVD back in October of last year.  It is a Spanish found footage film about a family that goes to their summer home and the family dies.  This movie is the 5 days of footage they found.

Cristian and July are brother and sister and are the two who video their whole time at the summer house.  There is a legend about the woods behind their house that if you get lost a ghost of girl will appear and show you the way.  They like to investigate and film things about urban legends so they decide this would be a good one to film.  They want to see if they can get this ghost girl on camera.  During the five days they explore the woods during the day filming various times of the day.  It can be seen how easy it is for someone to get lost in the woods, the woods are setup like a big labrynth.

One night their dog disappears and that's when things start to go bad for the family.  The movie does get one thing right and that's the title "Atrocious".  That's what the movie pretty much is.  The acting is good, the directing is fine but nothing happens for almost the length of the movie until the end.  It really does feel that you are just watching someones vacation footage.  I almost thought the movie was a joke movie while I was waiting for the scares and the horror to come.  I have to admit though the ending was one I didn't see coming but it took so long to get there that it wasn't worth it.

Fernando Barreda Luna wrote and directed this movie.  This is his first feature.  He does a good job with the directing and it's written pretty well it's just not well executed.  By the time the ending comes it's too late and you just want the movie to be over.  Even though it has an 85 minute running time it needed to be trimmed just for the fact that you are just watching to kids walk around their home filming, it's not that interesting.

Cristian Valencia plays Cristian the older brother.  He does a great job with what he is given to do.  It is supposed to be found footage so his acting felt like a real kid filming his vacation.  He has good presence on screen and is rather likable.

The same goes for Clara Moraleda who plays July the sister.  They make a good pairing and genuinely seem like an actual brother and sister.  She really shows good emotional range later on in the movie.  Clara, like Cristian has done a good job on screen.

I really can recommend this movie.  I wanted to like it, it seemed like it was going to be good, but once it started when it goes from Day 1 to Day 2 to Day 3 working up to Day 5 I just wanted it to be over.  This is one found footage movie to stay away from unless you want to watch someone's vacation footage for over an hour before you get to the scare, but when you do, it's almost 15 minutes of the boy running through the woods scared.

I give this movie 1.5 stars out of 5.  I give it that because of the acting and the ending.  It was an ending I didn't see coming but it just arrived too late.  With a shorter run time through tighter editing I think this could have been a better movie.  Till next times my friends.
